COD Continuing Education hosts 'Sage Series' lectures this spring

Continuing Education at College of DuPage will host "Sage Series" lectures this spring on the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

• There will be a free screening and discussion of the 1992 film "Like Water for Chocolate," directed by Alfonso Arau, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 9.

• Led by COD astronomy professor Joe DalSanto, attendees to "Extrasolar Planets" will learn how astronomers have found and begun exploring some of the thousands of extrasolar planets in recent years from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10.

• Explore the history of food, eating and cooking in China in "A Bite of China: A Perfect Blend of Five Flavors" from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.

• Accompanied by video from the classic 1959 to 1964 series, the lecture "The Twilight Zone: Six Degrees of Separation" explores connections of "The Twilight Zone" with other shows, movies and media from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.

• Tour the college's state-of-the-art facility with an inside look at the skills kitchen, chocolate room, Culinary Market and Bake Shop, as well as the college's boutique hotel in "Inside COD's Culinary and Hospitality Center" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1. Lunch is optional and not included in the course. Attendees who plan to stay for lunch following the tour must make reservations for the college's student-run Waterleaf restaurant in advance.

• A personalized behind-the-scenes tour of the MAC with Director Diana Martinez is followed by lunch (separate fee) at the student-run Waterleaf restaurant. "Behind the Scenes at the MAC" will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 23.

• Whether planning a road trip to Michigan or an adventure in Australia, attendees to "Travel the World With Ease" will learn to get the greatest value for their money from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 23.

• Explore the groundbreaking works of one of the most influential architects of the 20th century in "Less Is More: Minimalist Masterpieces of Mies van der Rohe in Chicago" from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 13.

• Explore what is known and what remains unknown about "The Stonewall Uprising and the Beginnings of the LGBT Rights Movement" from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 27.

• Go behind-the-scenes of the college's public radio jazz station with Station Manager Dan Bindert and learn about the programs and music WDCB has been broadcasting since 1977. "Behind the Scenes at WDCB Public Radio" will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 4.
