COD seventh in state for campus safety

College of DuPage has moved up a position, ranking seventh in Illinois for campus safety in a recent report by StateUniversity.com.

The company, which analyzed 2011 crime statistics like robbery, assault, theft, rape, and murder for 450 colleges and universities, ranked the College 57th nationally from a list that included both urban and suburban colleges and universities from across the country.

College of DuPage earned a score of 97.05 percent. The College has more than 30,000 students attending per term at its Glen Ellyn campus and six regional centers.

“The COD Police Department takes pride in our integrated strategy of community awareness and partnerships, promoting a safe campus for our students and community members using our facilities,” said Police Chief Joe Mullin. “This annual ranking reaffirms the impact that shared efforts from all employees can make and demonstrates the positive impact our presence has on this campus.”

Other Illinois community colleges listed in the top 100 are Moraine Valley Community College (29th), Triton College (37th), College of Lake County (58th), and Joliet Junior College (61st).
