Veterans employment fair July 26 at COD

The Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will host Hiring Our Heroes, a free employment fair for veterans, guard and reserve members, and military sponsors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000 (formerly SRC 2800), at College of DuPage.

In preparation for the job fair, the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is collaborating with College of DuPage and workNet DuPage on two pre-fair workshops that will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 9, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, in COD's Veteran's Lounge, Student Services Center, Room 3260.

“These workshops will help participants prepare for the employment fair and their job search,” said Shelly Mencacci, coordinator of Veteran Services at College of DuPage. “They will learn how to prepare a resume and sharpen their interview skills to gain an edge in this competitive job market.”

The pre-fair workshops are free, but registration is required and should be made by Thursday, July 5. For more information, call College of DuPage Career Services at (630) 942-2231.

College of DuPage is dedicated to supporting veterans transitioning to student life. The Veterans Services office provides personal assistance specifically for veterans in such areas as Counseling and Advising, academic assistance, career placement and benefits information. College of DuPage also has been designated a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs for three consecutive years and was recently awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in Education for Veterans Services.
