McAninch Arts Center Presents Retro Roots March 24
An amazing collection of bluegrass, roots and Americana musicians take to the stage in an 8 p.m. performance of Retro Roots Saturday, March 24, on the Mainstage of the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
National Medal of Arts recipient Dr. Ralph Stanley, the Grammy-winning voice of “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” is joined by Grammy Award winner Jim Lauderdale and bluegrass icons Seldom Scene, offering audiences more than four decades of musical tradition.
Known for his three-finger banjo technique, the octogenarian continues to tour extensively and is a member of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor. In 2000, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
Stanley's collaboration with Jim Lauderdale, “Lost in the Lonesome Pines,” earned a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2002. Lauderdale has written songs for The Dixie Chicks, George Strait and Patty Loveless and has toured with Elvis Costello and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Formed in 1971 out of a weekly basement jam session, American bluegrass band The Seldom Scene has built a steady following since its inception. Initially solely a recording act, the band has emerged as a popular touring group, traveling across the country each year to perform at a variety of venues.
Tickets to Retro Roots are $42 for adults, $40 for seniors and $32 for College of DuPage students and youth.
