WDCB Extends Weekday Jazz Programming

Chicago's radio home for jazz, 90.9fm WDCB, is responding to the demands of its listeners by adding an extra hour to its daily jazz programming.

The station is now providing an additional hour of jazz programming each weekday, continuing through 7 p.m., hosted by the station's popular afternoon host Bruce Oscar. Jazz programming at WDCB had previously ended each evening at 6 p.m. to make way for an hour of public affairs programming.

“We're excited about the opportunity to expand our jazz programming with an extra weekday hour,” says Station Manager Dan Bindert. “It means people all over Chicagoland who commute a little later in the day can enjoy an entire ride home with Miles Davis, Count Basie, Patricia Barber, Von Freeman and many more. And Bruce Oscar has such a great relationship with our listeners. He's fun to listen to and is the perfect afternoon companion. Plus he has great taste in jazz!”

Bindert added, “Chicago is one of the world's great centers of jazz, and WDCB is Chicago's jazz station. WDCB is proud to be such an important part of the jazz ecosystem in Chicago. Along with all of the dedicated musicians, presenters, labels, educators, writers and fans that keep jazz alive, radio is still one of the primary ways people get exposed to jazz. Expanding our daily jazz on WDCB is the first step toward a deeper commitment we are making to serving the jazz community and becoming a more prominent player within it.”

WDCB's flagship jazz program “DCB Jazz” airs: Mondays to Friday: midnight to 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Details about WDCB's programming is available at www.wdcb.org.
