COD DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble Performs March 13 at the MAC

DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble welcomes guests from Moraine Valley Jazz Ensemble as part of their concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

The performance takes place in the MAC's Belushi Performance Hall and features different sets by each group.

DCJE performs under the direction of Tom Tallman. The program for the March 13 concert includes: the music of Duke Ellington and rhythm guitar legend Freddy Green; music of Carole King performed by vocalist Deb Zelman; and Nat Cole's version of "The Late, Late Show" sung by Anthony Perry.

Dr. Tallman teaches courses in music theory, aural skills and American music at College of DuPage and is also the leader of the jazz performance program, which includes five ensembles ranging from small jazz groups to expanded big band. In addition, he maintains an active schedule of secular and sacred musical performance in the Chicago area.

He holds master's and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Trumpet Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Augustana College.

As a leader and performer, Dr. Tallman has worked with singers Joe Williams, Carmen Bradford and Kevin Mahogany; saxophonists Michael Brecker, Scott Hamilton and Phil Woods; and brass legends Carl Fontana, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie and others. He has also worked behind standup comedy legends Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, Phyllis Diller and Milton Berle. His conducting experience ranges from student, community and professional jazz ensembles in and around Chicago to string orchestra work with pianist Marian McPartland and expanded symphony orchestra with vocalist Kurt Elling.
