Wheaton College explores 'Leadership and the Vocation of Social Justice' Feb. 15
On Tuesday, Feb. 15, the Center for Urban Engagement at Wheaton College will welcome New Moms CEO Laura Zumdahl for a program on "Leadership and the Vocation of Social Justice."
This talk will examine what justice work looks like in real life and how it can move beyond ministry into other organizational structures.
Whether you are interested in full-time social change work or are contemplating how to integrate a commitment to justice into another career, come learn about what social justice and anti-poverty work look like on the ground through the lens of a human services agency in Chicago.
To be effective, the work of justice in Chicago must necessarily confront the legacy of racialized poverty, as well as work within our political and bureaucratic structures and bring new data-driven understanding and innovation to the table.
To meet these needs, New Moms has grown over the last 40 years from one woman distributing diapers and formula from the trunk of her car into a multi-million dollar organization that holistically supports young families and interrupts generational cycles of poverty. New Moms is an example of what justice and social change work looks like in practice.
Zumdahl currently serves as the chair of the board of trustees at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights.
This event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Meyer Science Center, Room 145 Buyse Lecture Hall, located at 430 Howard St. in Wheaton.
