Local hunger organization launches fundraising campaign

Glen Ellyn, IL - January 5, 2014 - The GardenWorks Project, a local volunteer-led organization dedicated to fighting hunger by providing families in need with resources to grow food at home is using the crowd-sourcing website, Indiegogo.com, to raise funds for their 2015 growing season.

The GardenWorks Project's goal is to build 40 new gardens at the homes of families who are in need of food pantry services. These families receive a cedar raised-bed garden, soil, compost, plants and seeds, and a mentor to teach them the basics of organic home food production.

The organization has set a fundraising goal of $6000, and offers a variety of "perks," or gifts, for each contribution that include garden seeds, t-shirts, gardening and cookbooks, and even a raised-bed garden which a volunteer will fill with soil and plant for the donor.

"Online crowdsourcing has been a very effective method of fundraising for us in the past. It's easy to contribute, and we have perks that people enjoy," said The GardenWorks Project Executive Director, Tina Koral. "These funds will allow us to continue the work that means so much to families experiencing food-insecurity in DuPage County."
