ICNA Relief helping nearly 53,000 people including 3,000 refuge families

Over the past few months, we have all seen images and heard news reports of Afghan refugees, including unaccompanied minors, fleeing Afghanistan and entering the US. These refugees come from war-torn regions and highly traumatic situations. They need our collective support.

In September, the Biden administration said it is expecting to resettle up to 95,000 Afghans in the U.S., and Governor J.B. Pritzker, says 3,000 Afghans are expected to settle in Illinois. Though the situation is still fluid, and these numbers can change at any time.

ICNA Relief works with your support and on your behalf to serve vulnerable families like those coming from Afghanistan with assistance such as providing food, clothing, health services, case management, car donations, skill-building, job placement, mentors for youth and adults, housing assistance, hygiene kits, backpacks, and school supplies.

As a national social services agency, ICNA Relief partners with organizations across the country to provide educational workshops to caseworkers and health practitioners. They are also partnering with foster care agencies to accommodate Muslim youth best and keep them connected to their Islamic faith and cultural identity. They are also partnering with Islamic centers to distribute religious items such as Qurans, prayer rugs, and Islamic clothing for women and men.

Throughout 2021, ICNA Relief's family services department served nearly 53K individuals, including a roster of over 3,000 refugee families.

The families ICNA Relief serves face complex challenges leaving their home countries and coming to the U.S.: where to stay, how to get a job, where to find halal food, how to sign up for school, and so much more.

ICNA Relief's services are open to anyone in need. But we cannot do this work without you.

Now through the end of the year, your gift will give more than 800 families everything they need to focus on rebuilding their lives from scratch.

ICNA Relief is asking the community to help raise awareness about the many needs our brothers and sisters face, including the demand for Muslim foster homes for homeless minors.

They are inviting volunteers to sign up as tutors and mentors. They especially need bilingual volunteers who speak Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Burmese, and Farsi to help with interpretation.

Volunteers can sign up at Bit.ly/ICNAReliefWaiver.

When a family comes to ICNA Relief, they are welcome with open arms and receive the necessary services to build a brighter future.

"Who will lend to God a good loan which God will multiply many times over? It is God 'alone' who decreases and increases 'wealth.' And to Him you will 'all' be returned" (Quran 2:245).

End the year with generosity by giving now.
