College of DuPage hosts American Sign Language Immersion Day Feb. 29

The American Sign Language Interpretation program at College of DuPage is hosting the third annual ASL Immersion Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, in the Jack H. Turner Conference Center, Student Resource Center Room 2000, on the College's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The event is open to high school and college ASL students at all levels as well as those interested in the college's ASLI program.

Sessions will focus on deaf culture, sports signs, classifiers practice, fingerspelling and much more. In addition, comedian Brett Shaffer from "The Flipside Show" will perform. All sessions will be in ASL without English interpretation.

The cost of the event is $10 and includes lunch. Registration is required. Register atwww.eventbrite.com.

The ASLI program at College of DuPage provides rich opportunities to learn sign language from native ASL signers and certified interpreters. Students will develop proficiency in ASL during the program which includes formal classroom instruction, small group practice and practical experiences. Students who successfully complete the ASL certificate may apply for selective admission to the ASLI certificate or degree program.
