DuPage Symphony Orchestra kicks off season with 'Inside the Orchestra' Oct. 10

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2019-2020 season with a new kind of symphony experience.

With a season theme of "Musical Journeys," the DuPage Symphony Orchestra invites audiences to experience music and cultures from around the world both on stage and in the lobby.

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 10, the "Inside the Orchestra" program invites students and patrons to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the symphony during an open dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

Watch the orchestra rehearse and learn about the process of music making from Maestra Barbara Schubert.

Each concert this season features an award-winning soloist and music that explores various regions of the world.

The "KidsNotes" includes games and information about the cultural context of the music to help you learn more about the region - be it Spain, Russia, Japan, Italy, or Germany.

Stop by the DuPage Symphony Orchestra Patron Services table and get a stamp in your "Junior Passport" for some great prizes.

Share a picture from the photo booth on social media using #DSOMusicalJourney and be entered to win prizes.

Explore the instrument petting zoo furnished by sponsor Quinlan & Fabish, and when the orchestra takes a break you will have the opportunity to share refreshments with Maestra Schubert, the musicians and soloist.

At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, the season opening concert "European Explorations" marks the beginning of a season-long "Musical Journey," showcasing music that stretches across Europe from sunny Spain to central Germany.

Lush settings of Spanish folk tunes are brought to the fore with music by Ravel, Chabrier, and Falla's "Seven Popular Spanish Songs" featuring acclaimed Chicago-area soprano Ariana Strahl.

Brahms' masterful Symphony No. 4 in E minor rounds out a program sure to take the listener on an enthralling musical and emotional journey.

As a partner in Arts DuPage Month, they are pleased to offer free refreshments.

Stop by the lobby before the concert or at intermission and visit the photo booth. Share your photos on social media using #DSOMusicalJourney for a chance to win a $50 gift card for Meson Sabika-Naperville; find information about Spanish cultural events in Chicago and beyond provided by our community partner, Instituto Cervantes-Chicago; and get a stamp on your "Musical Journeys" passport for a chance to enter a drawing for free subscription seats next season.

We invite you to take the Musical Journey with us. Don't miss all the DuPage Symphony Orchestra has to offer this season. Tickets are available online at www.dupagesymphony.org/tickets-events.
