Elgin Master Chorale to perform Bach Christmas Oratorio Nov. 13

The Elgin Master Chorale, the longest-established performing arts organization in the Fox Valley and northwest suburbs, begins its 70th anniversary season at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, with a performance of the Christmas Oratorio, composed in 1734 by Baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert will be presented at the Blizzard Theatre in Elgin Community College's Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive.

The 90-voice Elgin Master Chorale, known until three years ago as the Elgin Choral Union, will perform under the direction of Andrew Lewis, who begins his 12th season as music director. The Janus Ensemble, a chamber orchestra specializing in baroque music, will accompany the Elgin Master Chorale and soloists.

Also appearing will be the Elgin Master Chorale Children's Chorus, which was recently reorganized as an ensemble of the Elgin Master Chorale after a 30-plus-year history as the Elgin Children's Chorus. The children's chorus, under the direction of Becky Narofsky, will sing a selection of holiday-themed songs preceding the Elgin Master Chorale's performance of the Bach Christmas Oratorio.

Tickets, priced at $24 or $19 for students and seniors, are available through the Blizzard Theatre box office at (847) 622-0300 or online at www.ElginMasterChorale.org/concerts.
