College of DuPage President Robert L. Breuder Recognized by Illinois General Assembly for Recent CEO Award
College of DuPage President Robert L. Breuder was granted formal recognition from the Illinois Senate of the 98th General Assembly for his recent achievement in receiving a 2013 ACCT Central Region CEO Award from the Association of Community College Trustees.
During the Aug. 22 regular Board of Trustees meeting at College of DuPage,
Dr. Breuder received a Senate Recognition offered by State Senator Dan Kotowski, Senate President John J. Cullerton and Secretary of the Senate Tim Anderson for his “outstanding service and contributions during his more than 32 years as a college president at three institutions.”
“It is very fitting for Dr. Breuder to receive acknowledgement from the State of Illinois for his vision and dedication to creating one of the finest community colleges in the country,” said COD Board Chairman Erin Birt. “Dr. Breuder has truly been a mentor to so many individuals throughout his career. I'm very pleased to have our state officials recognize his contributions to this institution and to higher education overall.”
Under his leadership at COD since 2009, the College has added more than 50 certificate and degree programs; secured passage of a $168 million capital referendum; has increased its fund balance by more than $100 million (to $143 million or 81 percent of the College's operating budget as of June 2013), which led to the affirmation of the institution's Triple-A (Aaa, AAA) rating; has implemented a comprehensive strategic long-range planning process; and has overseen more than $550 million in campus improvements involving more than 1 million square feet of enhanced educational space.
Previously, Dr. Breuder served as president of William Rainey Harper College, in Palatine, Ill., and was the youngest community college president in the nation when he took the reins of the Penn College of Technology, in Williamsport, Penn., at the age of 36. The ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.
