Gingerbread House Contest Newest Addition to West Chicago’s Frosty Fest

The City of West Chicago, in partnership with the West Chicago Public Library District and community volunteers, is sponsoring a Gingerbread House Contest in conjunction with this year’s Frosty Fest activities.

The idea for the contest was submitted by local resident Pat Wood-Wilson after attending a similar event in another community. She suggested adding the contest to the 2012 Frosty Fest schedule and has volunteered to coordinate the activity with assistance from friends and community volunteers. “The entries would certainly not need to be as elaborate as those on the Food Channel, but something more modest,” she wrote.

The architectural creations, bonded with frosting and decorated with gum drops and candy in every conceivable form, will be judged anonymously in youth, teen and adult categories with ribbons for first, second and third place. The only caveat - if it’s visible, it must be edible!

Entries are to be registered at the West Chicago Public Library program room, 118 W. Washington Street, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Judging will take place on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., also in the Library’s program room. The distinguished panel of judges will include Acting Mayor Ruben Pineda, Police Officer Tony Quarto, Fire Chief Bob Hodge and local residents Mark and Lori Davis.

To showcase the talent and creative efforts of the community, all entries will be on display in the window of T.J. Maintenance, 113 Main Street, during Frosty Fest on December 1, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
