DuPage PADS Diaper Drive Oct. 28

For 25 years, DuPage PADS has provided hope for people who are homeless in DuPage County by offering an array of services that builds toward self-sufficiency and helps to stop the cycle of homelessness.

The Facts of Illinois:

Forty percent of children live in low-income families, defined as income below 200 percent of federal poverty level. Forty-seven percent of children in low-income families have at least-one parent who is employed full-time, year-round. Forty-three percent of children, under age 6, live in low-income families.

The Reality:

Purchasing diapers is not covered by Food Stamps or WIC. Childcare facilities require that the parent provides the diapers and most do not provide diapers or allow cloth diapers. Diapers are expensive and about 6-10 diapers are needed daily. On average it costs $130 to diaper two children for 1 month.

The Facts of DuPage PADS:

On average, DuPage PADS will provide about 12 families with diapers and about seven adults with incontinence products. To meet our participants' needs, DuPage PADS will provide 1,900 child diapers and 500 adult incontinence products (Depends) a month.

On Oct. 28, a diaper drive will take place at the Jewel-Osco, 750 W. Army Trail Road in Carol Stream.

Volunteers will be collecting diaper donations between 1 and 5 p.m.
