Insight, Inc. Helps Needy Children Get Ready for School
Insight, Inc., of Bloomingdale, was recently the generous donor of $1000 to the Humanitarian Service Project of Carol Stream for their school supply initiative. This is the second component to a school supply drive that Insight held earlier this year to help HSP, the first being a large amount of school supplies donated earlier in the summer. Patricia Hayes-Cook, an Inventory Analyst at Insight, spearheaded efforts to support HSP's initiative.
The new supplies collected by HSP went to the DuPage County Back to School Fair. This annual event helps needy families in DuPage County obtain the school supplies they need for their children's school year. Thanks to many generous donations, HSP was able to send three cargo vans filled with new school supplies to the fair. With the donations received after the August 8th fair, HSP has also been able to send the same amount of supplies directly to Krug, Gates, Hermes, and Oak Park elementary schools in Aurora, and Lincoln Elementary school in Addison, all schools with high amounts of needy children. HSP's school supply drive was also supported by numerous local community groups and businesses, including United Stationers of Carol Stream, who provided 350 backpacks full of school supplies to Lake Park Elementary in Addison.
The school supply initiative is also an important part of HSP's Children's Birthday Project. This project serves 888 needy area children by providing them a 20-25 pound Birthday Box containing school supplies, books, and toys. The initiative is essential in helping the Humanitarian Service Project provide for the needy school children of DuPage and Kane Counties. Donations are accepted year-round.
About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides monthly food deliveries of 90 pounds including fresh produce, frozen meats, non-perishables, paper products and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 888 children. Feed the Kids program provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
