DuPage County ACT-SO Regional Winners

Medals were awarded in 22 categories during the recent DuPage County ACT-SO Competition held at College of DuPage.

Samuel Sentongo, a junior at Providence St. Mel, was selected as the first recipient of the College of DuPage ACT-SO Science Recognition Scholarship. Sentongo, who was also awarded a gold medal in Engineering, can use the $500 award toward one semester of college tuition. In addition, Sentongo will join all regional gold medalists in competing at the national ACT-SO competition held in July in Houston.

ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) provides career exploration in the sciences, humanities, business and the arts. The recent competition was co-sponsored by College of DuPage, the DuPage County NAACP and the DuPage Regional Office of Education.

The following students received awards during the March 17 event:

Biology/Microbiology: Gold – Courtney Amegashie, Illinois Math and Science Academy; Bronze – Sharad Crosby, Naperville North

Chemistry/Biochemistry: Gold – Courtney Amegashie, Illinois Math and Science Academy; Silver – Rashad Crosby, Naperville North

Engineering: Gold – Samuel Sentongo, Providence St. Mel; Silver – Samuel Washington, Neuqua Valley

Mathematics: Silver – Alexis Cameron, Timothy Christian

Medicine and Health: Gold – Che Woodson, Naperville North; Bronze – Adrienne Cameron, Timothy Christian
