Help Provide a Home Cooked or Restaurant Meal for a Needy Senior
One way that the Humanitarian Service Project (H.S.P.) strives to improve the lives of impoverished seniors living in the local community is through their Monthly Meals Project, a program that allows volunteers the chance to touch the lives of needy seniors who are isolated and trapped in poverty. Once a month volunteers deliver a hot and hearty meal to a needy senior living in DuPage or Kane County. The volunteers choose to either buy a meal from a restaurant or to provide a home cooked meal for an underprivileged senior. Currently, the Humanitarian Service Project is looking for more volunteers to help deliver meals so that they may increase the number of seniors enrolled in the monthly program.
This Monthly Meal Project is not only about providing the seniors a delicious meal, but is also about reminding them that someone still cares. Many of the seniors that are enrolled in the project are home bound and unable to venture from their residence. They are grateful not only for the delicious meal, but also for the human interaction that transpires.
“I normally can't afford a nice hot meal so having one delivered was an extra treat. It helps me so much because I don't have to worry about cooking a meal for that day. My bones are soft and weak and I have difficulty standing and have to sit in a chair when I try to prepare myself a meal,” remarked a senior currently enrolled in the program.
Currently, the Humanitarian Service Project is looking for volunteers who will deliver delicious hearty meals to a needy senior in their program. If you are interested in getting involved with a program that is flexible and can fit your own schedule the Monthly Meals Project is a wonderful way to give back to your local community and make a positive difference in someone's life.

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 865 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts and annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
