Advocate Condell offering online prepared childbirth class
You can do almost anything online these days, including taking a childbirth preparation class.
Advocate Condell Medical Center is now offering an “Understanding Childbirth” online class, for parents who are unable to attend the more traditional childbirth preparation course also offered by the hospital in both English and Spanish.
“Our new online childbirth class is the perfect alternative for those expectant parents who cannot attend on on-site childbirth class due to work schedules, time constraints or medical conditions,” said Eileen Morrison, MD, board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
While nothing can replace the personal connection of an on-site class, Advocate Condell's 8-part program is an interactive, Web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth, said Jennifer Johnson, RNC, BSN, ICCE Condell's Prenatal Educator. The course covers the third trimester of pregnancy through 6 weeks after delivery.
The online childbirth class will help expectant mothers and their partners understand pregnancy, learn about labor, discover helpful comfort techniques, get an overview on medical procedures, understand Cesarean birth and know what to expect after baby arrives. Condell is the second of Advocate Health Care's 12 hospitals to launch an online childbirth preparation course. The course is also offered at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The cost of the course is $100. Participants can register by calling HealthAdvisor at 800-323-8622. They will receive an access code valid for 60 days.
