Lombard Jr. Women's Club donates $240 for needy seniors

The Lombard Junior Women's Club has donated $240 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project to help needy seniors. The gift was given in addition to the club's funds to sponsor a needy senior in the program. The club has been supporting HSP's efforts to provide relief to needy children and senior citizens in Dupage and Kane Counties for over two decades by providing sponsorships, as well as conducting toy and paper drives.

The Lombard Junior Women's Club has been involved in service in the area since it was founded in 1930. The club has made an impact in the community by sponsoring many local charities like the Humanitarian Service Project, and providing scholarships to young women in the area. Their flagship project is TLC Camp, a summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings, which the club has been sponsoring since 1982. The club's 4th annual “Bistros of the ‘Burbs” fundraiser is coming up on November 11th. It will be located at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. More information can be found on the club's website.

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and a Meal of the Month provided by HSP's volunteers.

Karole Kettering, HSP's Founder and Executive Director, said of the Lombard Junior Women's Club has been, “We at HSP appreciate their continued support in helping us in our mission to provide help to senior citizens affected by poverty. Their service has helped HSP touch the lives of many who are in desperate need.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
