Harris Bank employees donate to help needy kids with school supplies

Employees from the Harris Bank Consumer Lending Center at 3800 Golf Road in Rolling Meadows have donated $162.25 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) School Supply Drive. The funds were raised in order to provide supplies to needy families through HSP's initiative to supply school children in Dupage and Kane Counties whose families lack the resources to fully provide them with the supplies they need for the school year.

The money was raised by the employees as part of their “jeans days.” Every Thursday the employees are allowed to wear jeans in exchange for a one dollar contribution to a charity. Each charity is chosen by the employees, and receives the proceeds from two weeks of “jeans days.” The Harris employees were drawn to HSP because of their desire to help children in need.

Karole Kettering, HSP's Founder and Executive Director, said of Harris Bank's generosity, “we at HSP are excited to have the support of Harris Bank. Their contribution was very generous, and we are happy to have a new partner in our mission to alleviate the burden that poverty places on the people we reach out to.” HSP's School Supply Drive has reached hundreds of needy children in the past few years, in order to equip them to succeed in school.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
