Culinary & Hospitality Center on target for summer opening

Construction on the Culinary & Hospitality Center at College of DuPage continues at full speed in anticipation of its summer 2011 opening.

Located on the northeastern edge of the College's Glen Ellyn campus near the McAninch Arts Center, the new 60,000 square-foot facility is being constructed to become the first LEED-certified Culinary and Hospitality Center in the country. Students will begin taking classes in the new facility on Aug. 22.

“There are so many components to this building, and you can see everything coming together,” said John Wandolowski, director of Facilities at College of DuPage. “For example, the glass panels for the two-story lobby are in place. Off the lobby are the kitchens, and you can see that the large metal exhausts are now in place. On the exterior, the stonework is nearly finished.”

The new center will house the Foodservice, Culinary, and Hotel and Lodging programs. Features of the center include “Waterleaf,” a four-star fine restaurant; “Wheat,” a casual dining room; a large meeting space for receptions and special events; and six rooms in the facility's boutique hotel named “Water's Edge.”

In addition, the center will house the College's Multimedia Services department. Features include a large studio and editing suites.

“We're on target to open the center this summer,” Wandolowski said. “You won't believe how incredible it's going to look in about five months.”
