• The People's Resource Center, 201 S. Naperville Road, Wheaton, is in desperate need of nonperishable items for its food pantry. A growing number of clients, combined with rising food costs and decreased help from the government all have left the shelves nearly bare, PRC officials said. Needy residents of DuPage County may visit the food pantry once per month and usually receive about one week's worth of groceries. The food pantry distributes six or seven days worth of groceries to about 1,800 families. Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. • Benedictine University and the Freedom Calls Foundation are offering families of service members deployed to Iraq a chance to call their loved ones during the Easter holidays. Free, 30-minute video conference calls can be made to service members stationed at the following bases: Camp Taji, Al Asad Air Base, Camp Fallujah, Camp Victory (Baghdad) and Camp Taqaddum. • The Wood Dale VFW Post 2149 Men's Auxiliary will offer a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the post, 510 Georgetown Square, Wood Dale. Meal offerings include an all-you-can-eat fish for $8, a shrimp dinner for $9 and hamburgers for $5.50. • The Lombard Historical Society is holding a volunteer drive during March in hopes of increasing its volunteer corps by 50 percent. Several opportunities are available for anyone 16 or older who can spare two or more hours per month, including tour guides, helping with educational programs, living history docents, working in the gardens and more. All volunteers receive a discount at the Emporium Gift Shop, special recognition from the board and behind-the-scenes tours. The Victorian Museum, 23 W. • The Lombard Chamber of Commerce and the village of Lombard are seeking not-for-profit organizations to benefit from Lilac Time Art and Craft fair proceeds. The fair will be May 4 in downtown Lombard and funds from booth sales will be donated to one or more local charitable organizations. All applications will be reviewed by the Lilac Time Art and Craft Committee and recipients will be contacted before the fair.

• Cosley Zoo's Shop and Share fundraiser continues today and Wednesday at any local Jewel-Osco. Five percent of purchases before tax will be donated to the zoo.
