Explore the music of Vienna with Soiree Lyrique April 10

Soirée Lyrique will present "A Viennese Concert" at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin.

Performers will include soprano Genevieve Thiers, who just performed the role of Praskovia in "The Merry Widow" at Chicago Lyric Opera, alongside Renee Fleming and Thomas Hampson; soprano Solange Sior of Elgin, founder and artistic director of Soirée Lyrique, NFP; tenor Simon Kyung Lee who just returned from a national tour of Teatro Lirico d'Europa's productions of "La Bohème," "Aida," "Carmen," "Rigoletto," "Turandot," "Nabucco" and "Tosca"; baritone Nicholas Provenzale, who recently was a featured soloist with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and a winner of the Hawaii Public Radio Art Song Competition.

The audience will be delighted by popular excerpts from "The Merry Widow," "Paganini," "Die Fledermaus," "The Land of the Smiles," "The Desert Song," "Magic Flute" and famous waltzes from the "Blue Danube," "Wiener Blut" and more.

A string quartet from Chamber Music on the Fox, one of Elgin's newest arts organizations, will join Soirée Lyrique for this performance. Musicians will include violinists Jerry Loughney and Christina Buciu, violist Bonnie Yeager, and cellist Sara Sitzer.

Soirée Lyrique's pianist Chiayi Lee will complete the cast.

There are no ticket sales for these events. Suggested Donations are $15 to $30 per person.

Soirée Lyrique is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Therefore contributions are fully deductible as a charitable contribution for tax purposes.
