Bloomingdale Library Streamlines Services by Installing RFID!

This month Bloomingdale Public Library will implement an exciting new RFID system, using the latest technology from Bibliotheca, a leader in library automation. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) will streamline the in-person and self-checkout process by allowing staff and patrons to check out multiple items at once without having to scan each item individually. RFID will also allow library users to check-in their own materials and receive instant confirmation with a printed receipt showing that materials were successfully returned.

RFID also increases the security of library material and creates a more efficient staff. Time previously spent checking-in materials can now be used to perform more patron-focused tasks. Lastly, RFID increases the accuracy of the library catalog. With an easier and more efficient means of taking inventory the library collection will be more accurately represented online with fewer missing and lost items.

Bloomingdale Public Library is proud to be the first library within the LINC consortium with these services and capabilities. We encourage patrons and community members to stop in to have a look!
