Dan Bindert Named New WDCB 90.9 FM Station Manager

Radio veteran Dan Bindert has settled in as the new station manager at WDCB 90.9 FM Public Radio from College of DuPage.

Bindert, who began in late October, previously served as vice president of radio operations at Lakeshore Public media's WLPR in Merrillville, Ind., where he hosted jazz and blues programs and produced an anchored newscasts, “Weekend Edition” and features for “Eight Forty-Eight” at WBEZ.

“I've always loved radio. I started in college as an English major, but got completely interested in media my sophomore year at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York,” he said.

From there, Bindert quickly found his niche, filling in for regular DJs and doing play-by-play for both hockey and football.

After splitting time between Indiana and Illinois, Bindert said he's excited to be working on a college campus and is enjoying the energy at College of DuPage.

“I am looking forward to the leading WDCB. The station is an important part of the Chicago jazz landscape and people recognize the quality work we do,” he said. “We've already expanded our jazz programming by an hour a day and that's gotten great reception from our listeners.”

The station also enjoyed recently had its first remote broadcast from Pianoforte in Chicago, something Bindert said he wants to do regularly.

“We really want to be more active in the community,” he said. “WDCB has always been a great station, but we could do more in terms of community outreach. My goal is to position this station as a major player in Chicago radio. Over the last 20 to 30 years, WDCB has developed its niche and we want to elevate that.”
