Accident halts finale of St. Viator festival

An offstage accident forced St. Viator High School to halt the finale of its Winter Arts Festival on Sunday afternoon.

St. Viator President Fr. Corey Brost said a minor accident occurred in a storage area when the dance moderator either fell into a locker or the locker fell onto her.

The moderator, whose name has not been made available, injured her head around the eyelid area, resulting in some bad bruising, and was taken to a hospital, where she received stitches before being sent home.

The accident, Brost said, occurred during the last song around 3:30 p.m.

After she was hurt, she came backstage, where people crowded around her, trying to help.

It was at that point, that a decision was made to stop the event, while everyone waited for paramedics to arrive at the school, located at 1213 E. Oakton St.

“She was in a lot of pain, and we were focused on making sure she wasn’t too seriously hurt,” Brost said. “We didn’t want to move her.”
