Rocket Ice Arena offers new hockey league for older players

Bolingbrook, IL - Rocket Ice Arena, the premier destination for ice skating and hockey in Bolingbrook, Naperville and the southwest suburbs of Chicago is proud to present ‘Hockey Five-0', a new league for players over the age of 50.

“We were approached by several players that were interested in a league designed for the upper tier in the age demographic,” said Ed Schroeder, General Manager of Rocket Ice Arena, “that, coupled with an age trend we noticed in the players at our ‘rat hockey' sessions, pointed us in this direction.”

The name ‘Hockey Five-0' says it all- players are required to be at least 50 years old.

“We'll be checking ID's when they register,” Schroeder said.

Teams are forming now in a league formatted to promote a level playing surface for all.

A team may enter the league with a core roster of no more than 10 skaters and a goalie. All players will be rated on their level of skill- “A” (for the more skilled), then “B” and “C” at a ‘rate-skate' followed by a draft. Teams will draft players based on the skill ratings.

“Rocket Ice Arena is known as the ‘fun and friendly rink' and we want to offer a ‘fun and friendly league' for players that still have a desire to play the great game of hockey at ages that many thought they would be hanging up their skates!”, Schroeder exclaimed.

Teams will be playing on Friday evenings.

Hockey Five-0 kicks off its inaugural season on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Rocket Ice Arena.
