Benet’s York homers twice to beat Metea Valley

Emily York hit 2 homers in an 8-run second inning, her sixth and seventh of the year, and that big inning boosted No. 2 seed Benet past Metea Valley 11-2 on Tuesday at the Class 4A Bolingbrook regional.

York’s tying solo homer started the second, her 2-run shot capping off the big inning. Maeve McGuire, who was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and a run scored, added a 2-run single in the second and Stephanie Abello a 2-run double for the Redwings (21-8). Freshman Megan Stoppelman (8-4) threw a 3-hitter, striking out seven. Alise Perna homered and doubled for Metea (11-22).

Naperville Central 4, Batavia 1:Keegan Hayes (22-2) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, striking out nine, and Maddi Doane scored 3 runs for the No. 1 seed Redhawks (32-3) at the Class 4A Batavia regional. Batavia had two runners on and Katie Ryan due up in the sixth, but Hayes retired the Dayton-bound senior on a sacrifice fly, and the last four batters of the game to end it. Juliet Tassi earlier singled in 2 runs for Naperville Central.Downers Grove North 8, Plainfield North 0:Elaine Heflin (15-4) struck out 15 in a 2-hitter with 2 walks for the No. 3 seed Trojans (24-8) at the Class 4A Downers Grove North regional. Ali Woitovich and freshman Kaylee Newstrom both homered for Downers Grove North.Glenbard North 7, Wheaton North 4:Cece Dopart came on with runners at second and third and none out in the seventh, and preserved No. 2 seed Glenbard North#146;s win at the Class 4A Schaumburg regional. Heather Sperlazzo doubled, walked and scored 2 runs, Stephanie Campos doubled and drove in a run and Rucha Amin was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly for the Panthers (24-4). Lindsey Cherry (17-4) struck out five over six innings, scattering 10 hits.Kelly Thornton was 2-for-4 with a homer for Wheaton North, which trailed 7-1 after five innings but rallied with a 3-run sixth.York 12, Lincoln Park 0:Isabella Jaeger homered and drove in 3 runs, Sarah Milkowski was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored and Abby Solem was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored for the No. 2 seed Dukes (19-14) at the Class 4A York regional.Montini 14, Payton 0:Lauren Trojnar and Zoe Dannenberg combined on a one-hitter, striking out 10, and Cristina Barrett was 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI for the Broncos (26-10) at the Class 3A Payton regional.Glenbard South 16, Little Village 0:Jane Trzaska and Taylor Carli teamed up on a 1-hitter with 15 strikeouts, and Ashley Cohen had 2 hits and 4 RBI for the Raiders (25-5) at the Class 3A Glenbard South regional. Payton Carli and Aimee Gerhardt both had 3 hits.
