  • Lake Park banks on defense against Naperville Central Dec 9, 2014 10:29 PM
This wasn’t a normal meeting between DuPage Valley Conference boys basketball teams, which might explain Tuesday’s ragged play between Lake Park and Naperville Central. The Lancers proved to be a little less ragged, especially in the second half while pulling away to a 45-34 win in an Addison Trail Invite game played in Roselle. Lake Park’s fourth straight win marked the fourth time it’s allowed fewer than 40 points. Two other times the Lancers allowed only 41.

Just 24 hours later, the Redhawks returned to their home court for a nonconference battle against Glenbard West. There’s not much of a rivalry. The game might have some influence in postseason seedings. It had the makings of a game that might cause indifference.

Karl Fowler had only one thing on his mind. “I was thinking we had a big rivalry with Naperville (Central),” the West Aurora heavyweight wrestler said. “Now that we left the DVC we don’t get to face them.
