15 Year Tradition of Serving Needy Children

Last week, the Rotary Club of Bensenville donated $216 to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of DuPage County to support the non-profit's efforts to provide relief to impoverished, local children. The money will be used to sponsor four needy children served by HSP's Children's Birthday Project, which provides 875 needy children from DuPage and Kane Counties with a 20-25 lb birthday package full of toys, books, stuffed animals, school supplies, and party supplies. The Rotary Club of Bensenville has been sponsoring needy children in the program for 15 years.

Karole Kettering, Co-founder and Executive Director of HSP, said of the Rotary Club's longstanding patronage of the project, “HSP has been truly blessed to have the enduring partnership of the Bensenville Rotary Club. Over the years, the generosity of the club has empowered HSP to fulfill the needs of countless children.” The Rotary meets at 12:15pm on Tuesdays at Two Chefs Restaurant in Bensenville.

The needy children sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bensenville will receive a birthday package including 4 to 10 new toys, 5-7 new books, numerous smaller “filler gifts,” school supplies, and party supplies through HSP's Children's Birthday Project. All 875 needy children in the program receive gifts at Christmas time and are also eligible for HSP's Feed the Kids project which provides 100 needy families with a total a total of 525 pounds of nutritious foods per family through the summer months of June, July and August.
