Maine West tops Wheeling in dual

Maine West earned 1-2-3 finishes in the 200-yard IM and 100 free, plus a 1-2 placement from its 200 freestyle relay on its way to a 111-69 victory over visiting Wheeling on Tuesday in a nonconference girls swimming meet.

Veronica Dunn won the 200 and 500 freestyles for the Warriors, who also got wins from Rachel Lunkes (50 free), Holly Wasicak (100 breaststroke), Zoe Levonyak (100 fly), Anne Weber (200 IM) and Katie Pack (diving).

Wheeling's Theresa Godlewski won the 100 free (56.26) and 100 backstroke (1:03.11), where teammate Shannon Richards placed second (1:10.46). The Wildcats had the top medley and 400 free relays with Godlewski, Richards, Emily Zieger and Rachel Ropski.

Crystal Lake Central d. St. Viator: The host Lions came close but ended up falling short 48-41 to the Crystal Lake Central co-op team.

The St. Viator 200-yard medley relay of Laura Foss, Megan Schreuder, Lilly Miossi and Gianna Chu won in 2:07.90, and the Lions got individual wins from Jackie Rose (200 free) and Bridget Hulsebosch (200 IM). Chu and Foss placed 1-2 in the 100 back, and Schreuder won the 100 breaststroke.

Marisa Barton, a state finalist last season, helped CL Central to 1-2 finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles and had legs on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
