In 1987, West Suburban Humane Society moved to 1901 W. Ogden Ave. in Downers Grove. These buildings, which were a private boarding kennel before the humane society bought them, were demolished on April 20, as the humane society moves into the future in the new Adoption Center.

Founded in 1972 as a lost and found referral service, the volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) organization is a no-kill animal shelter dedicated to finding permanent and compatible homes for over 600 homeless domestic cats and dogs every year. Servicing the six counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will, it works for animal advocacy, care, and education through fundraising.
