Schaumburg teen killed in early morning Palatine crash
A 19-year-old Schaumburg man was killed Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Palatine, authorities said.
Police said officers responding to a call shortly before 4 a.m. found a black Nissan Altima that had struck a utility pole and a tree near the northeast corner of East Dundee Road and North Denise Drive.
The 19-year-old, who was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A witness reported seeing the Nissan stopped in the left turn lane on eastbound Dundee Road at North Hicks Road before it drove east in the westbound lanes, but did not see the crash, police said.
The driver’s name is being withheld to allow the family time to notify additional relatives, according to police.
Portions of Dundee Road were closed during the investigation. All lanes reopened at about 9 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation by Palatine police. The Cook County medical examiner’s office will determine the cause and manner of the man’s death.
