Volo Auto Museum hosts free-admission days for veterans

VOLO - U.S. military veterans are encouraged to enjoy all that the Volo Auto Museum has to offer free of charge this Saturday through Monday, Nov. 9-11, in honor of Veterans Day.

"Any active duty or retired member of any branch of the U.S. military is welcome," said Brian Grams, director of the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road in Volo. "Just show valid military ID at the ticket counter for the free admission pass, and join us for one, two or all three days."

Now approaching its 60th year, the Volo Auto Museum has a lengthy history of honoring the military. The grounds include a significant display of armed forces hardware, including a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter, an armor-clad troop carrier, plus uniforms, helmets and other memorabilia dating back to the Civil war.

"First-time visitors are often surprised," Grams said. "They expect the classic and muscle cars, but their eyes pop out when they see all of the other collections we've put together over the years."

The Volo Auto Museum is home to extensive collections of vintage tractors, campers, music machines, Batmobiles and even animatronic displays which - coming in 2021 - will take on the epic proportions of dinosaurs in the museum's new Jurassic Gardens adventure, currently under construction.

"We hope to see lots of veterans enjoying the place this weekend," said Grams, adding that the first 50 who present military ID for their free admission will receive a U.S. flag lapel pin.

The Volo Auto Museum features roughly 400 classic, muscle and film-famous cars as well as numerous other rarities. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $15.95 for adults, $8.95 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger.
