McSweeney abandons appeal of ballot decision

David McSweeney, the Republican candidate vying for the 52nd House District, announced he won’t appeal the Illinois State Board of Elections’ decision allowing his opponent, independent Dee Beaubien of Barrington Hills, to remain on the Nov. 6 ballot.

McSweeney, of Barrington Hills, had claimed that Beaubien was ineligible to run as an independent because she signed nominating petitions for two GOP primary candidates, and initially said he’d challenge the state board’s ruling in court.

The 52nd District seat, which serves the Barrington area as well as portions of Lake and McHenry counties, was formerly held by Mark Beaubien, Dee Beaubien’s late husband.
