Regional Illinois Science Olympiad March 12 at COD

The 2011 Illinois Science Olympiad Regional competition will take place Saturday, March 12, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the College of DuPage Physical Education Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. This event is free and open to the public.

Teams from 23 area high schools will exhibit and provide information about projects that cover the areas of Life Personal and Social Science (Anatomy and Physiology, Disease Detectives, Ecology, Microbe Mission, Ornithology); Earth and Space Science (Astronomy, Dynamic Planet, Fossils, Remote Sensing); Physical Science and Chemistry (Optics, Sounds of Music, Wind Power, Chem Lab, Forensics, Protein Modeling); Technology and Engineering (Helicopters, Mission Possible, Mousetrap Vehicle, Towers); and Inquiry and Nature of Science (Experimental Design, Sumo Bots, Technical Problem Solving, Write It Do It).

Winners of the regional competition will travel to the state finals at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign on April 16. The National Science Olympiad is scheduled for May 20 to 21 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

The Science Olympiad is one of the premiere science competitions in the nation, with nearly 6,000 teams competing in all 50 states. For more information, visit the ISO website at www.illinoisolympiad.org.
