Celebrate Scout Sunday Feb. 6

After last year's centennial celebration, the Boy Scouts of America look ahead to 2011 - the first year of a new century in Scouting.

Scout Sunday, a yearly recognition of Scouts in their religious communities, is among the first of many events that Scouts will participate in this year. Each religious organization will recognize Scouts for their service to the community, loyalty to family and reverence to their faith and country.

After last year's reflection on Scouting's past through exhibits and activities such as "Scout-O-Rama - Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey,” which drew over 14,000 attendees throughout the area last year, Scouts now have the opportunity to look ahead and think about what the future of Scouting will bring and what role they will play in it. Through each activity in which they participate this year, Scouts have the chance to set the tone for Scouting's next hundred years.

“Duty to God is an integral part of the Scouting program,” said Matthew Ackerman, Scout Executive for the St. Charles based Three Fires Council. “We encourage every Scout and leader to participate in a service according to their custom.”

Scout Sunday will be observed on Sunday, Feb. 6 in places of worship throughout DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb counties for the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America located in St. Charles.

The Three Fires Council serves over 37,200 youth throughout Kane, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb, and parts of Will and Cook counties. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
