A Call to Action by all Landlords...

Ever since the decline in the economy and the collapse of the new housing market, there has been a transition by many from single family residential ownership to rental housing living style for various reasons and with this transition there's been increasing proposals to legislate rental housing regulation both locally and at the state level.

The rental housing market is an industry and it appears, by the language of the recent proposed legislation, the State Government in Illinois may regulate this industry if the proposed Bills get passed into law.

With this in mind, it's becoming essential that we Landlords belong to a local Landlord Association so that we may assemble and have the ability to voice an input towards reasonable and fair laws at the local level and the local associations become participating members of the state association, the Illinois Rental Property Owners Association (IRPOA) who have been working very hard to represent our interest in Springfield for the last several years.

Rental housing regulation will certainly have an impact on our rental properties and how we conduct business and with this in mind the Westmont Landlord Association invites all interested rental property owners to the IRPOA 6th Annual Legislative Conference to be held on March 13th in Springfield.

As outlined by the IRPOA...

This event is a great opportunity for you to learn about regulation being proposed at both the state and local level that will affect your business. Your attendance is important so legislators become familiar with you as a person doing business in the community they represent. We all want laws that are fair but unless we make our concerns known, our legislators can not consider our opinion in the debate on legislation. The work needed to represent the interests of housing providers is significant. We can't rely on other groups to protect our rights. IRPOA is run by volunteers so contributions from every member make a difference. Please take the time to join us on March 13th and help us protect your business.

This year we are following proposals regarding:

• licensing,

• inspections,

• impose obligations on you to control crime and investigate gang related crime,

• lead based paint

• extend lease terms on properties purchased in foreclosure,

• homestead exemptions,

• metal theft

And other issues. As you can see the list is long.

You must register for this event, the fee is $25.00. Registration is very easy and payment of the fee is by credit card with a confirming email of payment.
