College of DuPage kicks off Black History Month celebration

College of DuPage students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the community, danced to the sounds of Indika Reggae at the college's Black History Month 2018 kick-off celebration.

The ceremony featured remarks from college President Dr. Ann Rondeau, a presentation of colors by students from East Aurora High School, and a performance by the College of DuPage Chamber Singers, led by COD Choral Music Director Lee Kesselman.

The college also hosted the African-American Read-In, featuring volunteer readers from across the campus community presenting their favorite selections from African-American books, essays and poetry collections, as well as brief biological sketches of the authors.

Throughout February, the college offers a variety of Black History Month events including film screenings, visiting speakers and artists and "African-Americans in Times of War," a panel discussion on Monday, Feb. 19, mediated by Dr. Rondeau and featuring Retired U.S. Army Major General Marcia Anderson and including COD faculty and staff who have served in the military.
