Picosa brings a vibrant concert program to the stage on Wednesday, April 5th at 7:30pm at North Central College, Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave, Naperville, IL 60540. Picosa showcases its signature symphonic sound with innovative programming that brings the art of virtuosic chamber music to every concert experience. General Admission tickets are $10. NCC Faculty, Staff and Students are Free. Picosa is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization.
Picosa presents a varied program of chamber music showcasing works by local composers for North Central College's Sounds of New Music Festival. Misook Kim is a Korean American composer who serves on the faculty of Wheaton College. Her modern style in Transmutation for flute, violin, and cello is dramatic yet concise. Picosa's Composer-in-Residence and North Central College Assistant Professor of Music Jonathon Kirk brings a new setting of Wraith for flute and electronics, which gives the listener the experience of living in a painting by Mark Rothko in this performance by Jennie Brown, with its rich colors moving and changing in the air. Tigran Mansurian may be an unfamiliar composer, but his Agnus Dei for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano is filled with beauty. Chicago's Fonema Consort's Artistic Director Pablo Chin's Kaval Imaginario is the perfect contemporary showcase for virtuoso clarinetist Andrea R. DiOrio, as it tells the story of a duel with the devil. Listeners are sure to enjoy Mara's Lullaby, written by University of Illinois at Chicago Assistant Professor of Composition Marc Mellits, which captures a favorite melody that he would hum to his daughter Mara at bedtime. Closing the concert is Shulamit Ran's masterpiece Mirage. Shulamit Ran is Professor Emeritus of the University of Chicago, a Pulitzer Prize winning composer, and a member of Picosa's Advisory Board. Finally, we are particularly excited to welcome guest artist Kuang-Hao Huang on piano, and Picosa's newest core member, Patti Garvey, on cello. Tickets are $10 for General Admission. North Central College Faculty, Staff and Students are free. Please visit www.PicosaMusic.com to purchase tickets and for information about locations and parking.
