Aug. 27-28: Auditions for CLC Theatre department's 'Charlotte's Web'; Theatre courses offered this fall

Community members age 12 and up are invited to audition for the CLC children's theatre production of “Charlotte's Web” at 6:30 p.m. on either Aug. 27 or 28. Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Call-backs will be held on Aug. 29 from 6:30-10 p.m.

The play is based on the classic book by E.B. White, which was adapted by Joseph Robinette.

The director is Susan A. Robinson, adjunct theatre faculty member. The play will be performed Oct. 3 and 4 at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 5 at 3 p.m., Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre.

The director is looking for cast members age 12 and over. Actors should either come prepared to deliver a 60 to 90 second memorized monologue or to read a selection from the play. Actors with dance, gymnastic and circus skills are especially encouraged to audition. Rehearsals will start Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m., and rehearsals are typically held Monday through Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 or 10 p.m.

E.B. White's timeless tale is the story of an unusual friendship that develops between Wilbur, a runty pig, and Charlotte, a heroic spider. When Wilbur starts to worry that he may be turned into “smoked bacon and ham,” Charlotte spins a special web to try and convince the farmers how terrific Wilbur really is. This wonderful stage adaptation brings to life all of readers' favorite characters from the book.
