COD responds to neighbors, adjusts development plan

In response to feedback from neighbors, College of DuPage has adjusted a proposed planned unit development (PUD) filed with DuPage County, removing placeholders for multiple buildings and a water tower. The plan garnered unanimous support from the DuPage County Board's Development Committee at its meeting Tuesday, June 19. The PUD must next be approved by the County Board.

Earlier this year and at the College's request, COD was placed under the county's jurisdiction for zoning and construction through an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Village of Glen Ellyn. At the request of county leaders, the College filed a PUD application to identify current property uses and establish zoning classifications for future projects. The College property currently is zoned R1 residential, the standard zoning given by the county for all new properties under its jurisdiction.

The County's preference is to review an all-inclusive development plan for larger properties. Accordingly, the College's engineering firm, V3, and the College's architects, Legat, prepared a zoning plat and site plan that included placeholders for possible future buildings, structures, signs, parking lots and fields based on the complete build out of the College's campus over the next few decades.

“Our ultimate goal is to remain a good neighbor to the residents of Glen Ellyn while meeting the educational needs of our constituents within District 502,” said COD President Robert L. Breuder. “Given concerns regarding long-terms plans expressed by our neighbors, County officials altered their request of the College and thought it best if we limit our plans to the immediate future. The College was glad to do so.”

College officials plan to meet with neighbors this fall and next spring to provide updates on current projects and future plans.
