Hubble school makes donation of paper products for needy seniors

Recently, Hubble Middle School made a large donation of paper products, for the sake of needy senior citizens served by the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of Carol Stream.

Through the school-wide drive, the students of Hubble Middle School in Warrenville collected an abundance of various paper products such as toilet paper, Kleenex and paper towels, which ended up filling an entire van by the time the drive ended on May 18th. The entire collection of paper products was donated to HSP. The items that were donated will help assist 120 needy seniors who take part in the HSP's Senior Citizen Project.

Karole Kettering, Founder and Executive Director of HSP said about the donation, “It's so wonderful to see young people, like the student body of Hubble Middle School, involved in helping needy senior citizens. Many seniors in our community are so pained by poverty, that they cannot afford to meet their own basic needs.”

The impoverished seniors of HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries which include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, essential personal care items as well as the paper products. Along with the monthly delivery of groceries, needy seniors receive a Meal of the Month and “Secret Pal” gifts from an HSP volunteer. At Christmas time seniors also receive gifts as a part of the Senior Citizen Project. Volunteers help to provide all of this with a $70/month sponsorship to one impoverished senior within the DuPage and Kane Counties.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
