Humanitarian Service Project Seeks Volunteer Speakers

In an ever-expanding effort to reach the surrounding community, the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) of Carol Stream is presently seeking volunteers to speak for the benefit of the needy senior citizens and children served by HSP. Members of HSP's speaker team represent the non-profit charity to community groups, and businesses educating them about HSP's mission to alleviate the burden that hunger and poverty places on children and senior citizens living in DuPage and Kane County.

HSP reaches needy members of the community through their Senior Citizen and Children's Birthday Projects. The 120 impoverished seniors served by HSP receive deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products each month. The Children's Birthday Project provides 900 needy children ages 3-11 with a 20-25 lb. box containing books, toys, games, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. In addition, children in the program receive school supplies, Christmas gifts, and are eligible for the Feed the Kids program which provides 750 pounds of food for needy families during the summer months of June, July, and August, worth over $1,500 retail.

Karole Kettering, founder and executive director of HSP, said of HSP's speaker team, “We've forged many enduring partnerships and reached so many people in need through the service of our speakers. The team has been an integral outlet for friends of HSP to use their passions and talents to serve others.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
