COD, U of I announce Engineering Guaranteed Admissions Transfer Program

College of DuPage and the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has announced the formation of Guaranteed Admissions Transfer Program (GATP) between the institutions.

“This agreement offers COD students guaranteed admission to the College of Engineering at UIUC, which is a tremendous opportunity,” said COD President Robert L. Breuder. “The College of Engineering at UIUC is consistently ranked as one of the top engineering schools nationally and worldwide. It is a great accolade for COD's science and engineering programs that UIUC has created an unqualified pathway for our students to gain admission to the College of Engineering for completion of their degree.”

College of DuPage will host an information session about this program at the Glen Ellyn campus on Saturday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Health and Science Center, Room 1230.

The New GATP program will facilitate transfer, minimize duplication of instruction and will build on community college and university learning experiences. In order to qualify for the program, students must complete a specified list of equivalent courses at COD, maintaining a 3.3 GPA in these courses and a 3.2 cumulative GPA for all classes taken at COD. Students must also enroll full-time (12 or more semester hours).

Specific course requirements are outlined for intended majors in 13 programs: Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, General Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering.

“This agreement demonstrates the quality and rigor of the science and engineering curriculums at College of DuPage,” said COD Executive Vice President Joe Collins. “Course for course, the UIUC College of Engineering has equated COD courses with those completed during the first two years on the Urbana-Champaign campus.”

College of DuPage will assign each GATP student with a transfer advisor to assist with course selection and registration, as well as offer general guidance until his or her transfer to UIUC.
