ECC bows out at Illinois Valley

The Elgin Community College women’s basketball team suffered through a poor shooting day and lost to Illinois Valley 73-66 Saturday in the semifinals of the Region IV tournament at Illinois Valley in Oglesby.

The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference champion Spartans finished the season 25-7. It was ECC’s second loss to Illinois Valley this season. The Spartans were the No. 3 seed in the tournament, IVC No. 2.

Cassie Dumoulin led ECC with 21 points and Alex Dumoulin added 18, but both were just 7-for-21 shooting in the game.

DiJon Smith added 15 points for the Spartans and Carly Saraceno had 12.

“We were trying to keep it going but we did not shoot the ball well today,” said ECC coach Jerry McLaughlin, whose team was down 38-35 at halftime.

“It was a great game and it’s been a great season.”
