Volunteers add touch of holiday spirit to Little Angels

The holiday season is a time of giving and celebration. Volunteers from Verizon showed both of these attributes when they visited with residents and staff at Little Angels.

Verizon has joined many corporations in encouraging their employees to volunteer time and money in support of local nonprofits and schools.

This year, eight volunteers from Verizon's Training Group, located in Elgin, volunteered their time and talents at Little Angels on Monday, Dec. 19. The Verizon employees helped staff clean and organize files and prepare mailings for the 25th annual Little Angels Pledge Run.

Volunteers Adriana Acevedo, Dwayne Williams, Tina Smith and Paul Lim also took part in the activity time to play “Holiday Baggo” and interact with residents.

“All of the children and young adults at Little Angels have severe disabilities and need maximum assistance with activities,” states Julie Currao, Resident Services Director at Little Angels. “They really get a lot out of activity time when volunteer groups like this enthusiastically join in.”

Other volunteers from Verizon included Kelly Anderson, Kay Cammon, Candi Wildhaber and Jacquelyn Kasper. All volunteers ended the morning singing carols and creating two Christmas trees out of Christmas cards addressed to each of the 57 residents at Little Angels.
