Divine Savior Parish marks 20th anniversary of helping needy

Divine Savior Parish, 6700 Main St. in Downers Grove, has donated gifts for 350 children and 120 seniors in the Humanitarian Service Project's Christmas Offering holiday program. This is the 20th year the parish has partnered with the Carol Stream based non-profit to help impoverished children, seniors and families in the community.

Divine Savior Parish opened their doors in 1968 and currently has over 1,800 parishioners. In addition to the holiday gift donation, the church has supported HSP by hosting food drives, sponsoring children in HSP's Children's Birthday Program and doing giving trees to help needy seniors in the Senior Citizen Project.

“We are deeply grateful for the dedication and support of Divine Savior Parish. Their commitment and passion for helping those in need reveals the sensitivity and compassion they hold,” said Karole Kettering, HSP executive director. The HSP's Christmas Offering Program will provide gifts for a total of 1200 children and 120 seniors. In addition, the families will receive more than 25,000 lbs of food.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
