Little Angels friends have big impact on residents
The 57 children and young adults living at Little Angels are non-ambulatory, with severe developmental disabilities and complex medical needs. These residents require specialized transportation for medical appointments, community outings and trips home to visit family. This year, supporters of Little Angels can have an immediate impact on the lives of these residents by helping to fund the purchase of a brand new wheelchair accessible van.
The current van was purchased secondhand and has been used by Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care for over 10 years. This vehicle is often unavailable for use because of mechanical problems. A new wheelchair accessible van will make a difference in the lives of the Little Angels residents and Developmental Training Center clients by providing safe, reliable transportation to the many medical appointments this population requires, as well as to educational and community events.
A newer, more dependable van will also allow parents to take their child home for a visit more often. Kathy Westburg, parent of a Little Angels resident, says “We are so grateful Little Angels has an accessible van we can use. Having it available to bring our son Adam to family events and outings is important to us. Without it, he misses the holiday dinners, birthday parties and picnics that enrich his life and ours.”
A new wheelchair accessible van will cost $40,000. The Dart Foundation, the Harvey and Ethel Daeumer Foundation and Pritchett Elementary School in Buffalo Grove have already donated $8,800 toward this purchase; the Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care asks supporters to join these organizations, and help make a difference in the lives of these very special children and young adults.
